Remarks for Our Site Directors

Dear Class of Summer 2022,

Completing Year Up is no easy feat. It comes with sacrifices, sleepless nights, doubts, fears, and pushing past discomforts. Graduation is, therefore, a reminder. It is a time to reflect and celebrate the road to which you have traveled. A year ago, you decided to entrust what your future will look like to a program. You may not have anticipated the way it was going to stretch you. Whether its struggling through the technical concepts, finding the strength in your voice, the courage to ask for help, the confidence that you belong, or the support system to keep going, you are here and you are better for it. The journey is as important as the destination. Celebrate it!

Graduation is also the start of a new chapter, a new road to travel. With the global pandemic still looming heavily, rising cost of living, mass shootings, climate change warnings – what is ahead of you can feel daunting. But just as you have rose to the challenge at Year Up, so too will you rise to the occasion. The lessons you have learned and imparted to each other will last a lifetime. The inner strength that you have found, the community that you have bonded with, the networks that you have established remains. Those are the strong foundations to stand in. Those are what makes your future shine brighter.

Graduation is a reflection and celebration. Congratulations again for what you have accomplished amidst personal and external challenges. Cherish the moment and hold on to the memories. Graduation is also a new beginning. May the road continued to be filled with new self-discoveries, new friendships, and new skills. We look forward to hearing about your endeavors and adventures years from now and we thank you letting us be a part of your journey.

In community,
